The corporation was formed by the merger of Alto Broadcasting System (ABS) owned by James Lindenberg and Judge Antonio Quirino (the brother of then-Philippine President Elpidio Quirino) and the Chronicle Broadcasting Network (CBN) owned by Don Eugenio Lopez, Sr. and the then-Philippine Vice-President Fernando Lopez. Besides the main Channel 2 and Studio 23, they also have cable and satellite channels like the ABS-CBN News Channel (ANC), Balls, a sports channel, Cinema One, DZMM TeleRadyo, and a few more others. This is a step they have taken to also saturate a wider range of audiences, stepping out of the local channel scene.
Another Step they took is to integrate international subsidiaries. The Filipino Channel, more popularly known as TFC is the international platform of the broadcasting network to reach the OFW's around the world and maybe even those of the different nationalities.

FUTURE PLANS?
ABS-CBN, as one of the leading broadcasting companies in the Philippines and the South East Asia, is not holding back as their plans to go DIGITAL has been prepared for years now and is undergoing the different testings and research to fully migrate to the better technology.
The company planned to utilize the DVB-T standard since their application for a license from the NTC to operate digital terrestrial television service. However, a detour has occurred when the NTC has decided to adapt the Japanese standard, ISDB-T. THe company has been testing their system for a limited area around Quezon City by providing DTT converter boxes for normal television sets to work with their digital signal. With all these however, there is large expense for this migration with a pending deadline from the NTC for all stations to migrate to digital,
